spouse of low-skilled now eligible for open work permit

Started January 30, 2023, family member of most foreign workers are eligible to apply open work permit. Especially, there are exceptions apply to those low-skilled worker’s family.

Family member of foreigner who is employed in a low-skilled occupation (TEER 4 or 5 of NOC) under a valid work permit, and this work permit must be valid for at least 6 months after the family member’s open work permit application is received.

Note: workers in a TEER 4 or 5 job under the Low-wage Stream, the Seasonal Agricultural Worker Program and Agricultural Stream are not eligible at this time.
